The GREAT Sir Robert Peel (to quote my school History teacher) was Prime Minister (this is Britain I'm talking about) during the middle of the 19th Century, and oversaw the repeal of the Corn Laws (something that ultimately destroyed his career), and the development of the "conservatives" (with a small "c") out of what had previously been the "Tories" (initially a word used in insult, but which had since come to represent those who sat opposite the Whigs). Peel eventually died by falling off a horse (in 1850, if memory serves).
I'm boring you, I'm sure, so I won't go on.
