In all honesty, I know exactly what you mean. However, I don't think Jackson intended it to be funny. I believe he intended it to be exciting and suspenseful. Either way, he failed. I didn't find the stampede to be funny OR exciting.

It was fun enough while it lasted.
But yes, it could have been better. I won't cry over it, though. It's only King Kong, after all...
