Actually, the puzzles themselves are another part of this game's success; they aren't for the partially retarded (there's no "do you want to place the shield into the shield-shaped indent?"); in fact, sometimes they require (gasp!) reading the numerous clues you pick up. This gives you a rich overview of the game world like few games before it, and there's well-written asides that more-than-adequately placate the rabid Mythos fan. "Oooh, the save game symbol is an Elder Sign!" "Did you spot the Book of Eibon in that cut-scene?" Yes, this plus load screens with Lovecraftian excerpts give Cthulhu cultists much to praise.
