I don't really think the point is "romanticising", or whatever. The point, I find, it more that it's not been figured out. No one knows who the guy was. Call it the first prominent series of murders without a face. The other things thus far mentioned are all mentioned by name. That, alone, says something. Of course the crimes aren't "spectacular". But that's really not the point (IMO, at least).
