You could try the following:
Goto start, run and enter: dxdiag
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool program select the tab "Sound".
Move and decrease the "Hardware Sound Acceleration" bar one point to the left and click Exit.
Try the game.
If it doesn't work, repeat above steps and decrease the level of "Hardware Sound Acceleration" one point again.
