I had said it like "Nie. Hoffe ich." But otherwise, you did fine.
I'm sure it's confusing, because the word orders can be very different in both languages. In English, it's *always* subject-predicate-object. In German, it isn't.
So..
You tried to say:
Never. I hope.
Nie. Ich hoffe. (Nobody would say it like this over here, but it's clear where that's coming from.)
It's f§$king confusing, I know. Especially because
Ich hoffe, nie.
would be very fine as well if you'd try to say it in one sentence.
BTW: Temp did something similar. He tried to say:
Two more days.
Zwei mehr Tage sounds moronic.
Zwei Tage mehr is okay-er.
And, can be even nicer said if you don't try to translate it word by word:
Noch zwei Tage.
