I love both, and feel that either is best savored without the addition of cream, sugar, or other flavor-masking ingredients. Truly good examples of either don't require such extraneous additions.
My experience of British culture and habits is limited to reruns of British television shows (The Vicar Of Dibley, Waiting For God, As Time Goes By, Good Neighbors, Chef!, etc.), and in these shows Brits are often depicted as serving instant coffee to guests in their homes. As instant coffee is foul, bitter sludge on it's best day, surely this isn't the case in reality?
