1. Introduction

This is the first in a series of four adventures in the John DeFoe quadrilogy
by Yahtzee. The games can be downloaded for free from the developer's website:
https://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm. In 5 Days a Stranger, cat burglar
Trilby breaks into the supposedly deserted DeFoe manor, but soon finds himself
trapped in the house with four other people by a mysterious force. As people in
the house start being murdered, Trilby must find a way of stopping the killer.

2. Walkthrough
===============================================================================
DAY 1
-----
The game starts in the office on the second floor. Try to open the window: It
has jarred shut. Open the door to exit the room. In the hall, Trilby sees a man
running away from him. Go downstairs to the lobby. Open the right door three
times to meet Philip: He says that he will be calling a meeting in the lounge.
Open the left door three times and go upstairs to the hall. Walk to the right
side of the hall and talk to Simone to tell her about the meeting. Walk
downstairs and open the left door three times to go outside. Use the tree to
hear a voice. Talk to the tree and Jim will drop down. Return to the house and
open the right door three times to enter the lounge. Talk to Jim, Philip and
Simone about all of the topics to complete the first day.
DAY 2
-----
Open the left door four times to go outside. Walk east to the garden and talk
to Philip. Say "What are you doing with the metal detector?": He is looking for
the family tomb. Say "How do you know the tomb's there?": He will continue to
look in the garden unless he sees evidence that it might be somewhere else. Say
"See you around.". Return to the house. Open the right door twice, go upstairs
and open the nearest door to enter the library. Get one of the yellow books on
the third shelf on the left bookcase to take the plan.
Return to the garden and give the plan to Philip to get the metal detector.
Walk west and use the metal detector on the pipeline to track the trail of the
pipe to a pile of dirt in the garden. Use the dirt to reveal a panel. Use the
panel: Nothing seems to happen. Walk west to see that the swimming pool has
been drained. Climb down the ladder into the pool to complete the day.
DAY 3
-----
Open the left door four times to go outside: Trilby's car has appeared. Enter
the house, open the right door twice and go upstairs. Open the nearest door to
enter the library. Talk to Jim and say "What're you doing?": He wants to help.
Say "Do you want to tag along with me?": He starts following Trilby. Go back
outside the house and use the car to get the lockpicks. Use the lockpicks on
the shed door to unlock it, then open the door to enter the shed. Get the saw
and the pickaxe. Exit the shed and wait for Jim to appear. Use the saw on the
tree and Jim will help Trilby to cut it down. Enter the house.
Open the right door twice to enter the lobby. Get the newspaper. Go upstairs
and use the lockpicks on the second door from the right. Open the wardrobe and
get the green book. Open the window and climb outside. Use the grolly on the
loose tile to swing over to the other window sill. Use the window to enter the
room. Get the teddy on the bed. Open the nightstand to get the diary. Open the
door to exit the room. Open the door near the top of the stairs to enter the
library. Get one of the blue books on the bottom-left shelf. In the inventory,
read the article, red diary, green diary, newspaper and family history: Trilby
will say that he wants to find Matthew's body and that a book in the library
may help. Get one of the black books on the right shelf. Read the book.
Exit the library, go downstairs and open the right door twice to enter the
television room. Get the cord. Open the left door five times to go outside. Get
the twig. Return to the kitchen and open the middle cabinet to see a bag of
salt. Combine the cord with the teddy. Combine the cord + bear with the stick.
Use the bear + stick on the salt. Open the right door twice, go upstairs and
open the third door from the right. Use the salty bear + stick on the bed. The
salty bear + stick can now be looked at to direct Trilby to the kitchen.
After arriving at the kitchen, look at the plan: Trilby will see something that
doesn't belong on the map. Use the pickaxe on the left wall. Go through the
hole to the basement. Look at the salty bear + stick and follow the directions
until Trilby says that it points down. Use the area to uncover two skeletons:
A smash is then heard from upstairs. Walk upstairs and open the right door five
times to see that the idol has fallen. Get the idol to complete the third day.
DAY 4
-----
Trilby wakes up in the shed. Talk to the window to hear Simone outside. Talk to
window again to speak to Simone. Say "What makes you think I killed Philip,
anyway?": Simone asks for Trilby's version of the story. Say "I was possessed
by the ghost!". Say "It possessed me just like it did when I killed AJ.". Say
"I'm delirious with guilt most of the time.": She slides the tie under the
door. Get the tie to find the lockpick. Use the lockpick on the door, then open
the door to exit the shed. Enter the house. Open the right door twice, go
upstairs and open the door at the right side of the hall to enter the bathroom.
Shortly after Simone enters the bathroom, the welder will appear. Wait until he
is standing on the rug, then use the rug to complete the fourth day.
DAY 5
-----
Choose any answer to Simone's questions. Enter the room behind Trilby and talk
to Jim to get the welding mask, apron and machete. Say "See you later.". Exit
the room, go downstairs and open the right door to enter the sitting room. Get
the scissors on the dresser. Open the left door three times to enter the
kitchen. Combine the scissors with the apron to get the strip. Combine the
welding mask with the strip. Combine the mask + strip with the machete. Use the
mask + machete on the salt. Go through the hole to the basement and use the
salty mask + machete on the chains. Exit the basement. Open the right door
twice, go upstairs and open the far right door to enter the bathroom.
Look at the salty mask + machete and follow the directions to the correct
location. Combine the scissors with the salty mask + machete. Use the machete
on the tiles to reveal a skeleton. Get the body. Exit the bathroom. Open the
door near the top of the stairs to enter the library. Get one of the black
books on the right shelf. Exit the library. Go downstairs and open the right
door three times. Read the black magic book. Use the remains on the floor in
front of the fire. Use the apron on the remains. Open the left door twice to
enter the living room. Talk to Simone and say "Could you meet me in the trophy
room?". Open the left door, go upstairs and open the third door from the
right. Talk to Jim and say "Could you go down to the trophy room?". Return to
the trophy room. Get the rifle above the fire and give it to Simone. Give the
teddy to Jim. Use the black magic book on Trilby to complete the game.

3. Item List
===============================================================================
APRON
Found by talking to Jim on day 5. It is combined with the scissors to make
the strip. After the remains have been used on the floor in the trophy room,
the apron is one of the items that is used on the remains.
ARTICLE
Found by talking to Philip in the meeting at the end of day 1. It is one of
the items that has to be read before Trilby can get the white magic book from
the library.
BEAR + STICK
Made by combining the cord + bear with the stick. It is used on the salt in
the kitchen to make the salty bear + stick.
BLACK MAGIC BOOK
After the remains have been found on day 5, the black magic book is found by
getting one of the black books on the right bookshelf in the library. It has
to be read before the remains can be used on the floor in the trophy room. It
is used on Trilby in the trophy room.
BOOK (WHITE)
Found by getting one of the black books on the shelf in the library after the
article, red diary, green diary, newspaper and family history have been read.
It has to be read before the body can be found at the end of day 3.
CORD
Found in the television room. It is combined with the teddy to make the cord
+ bear.
CORD + BEAR
After the white magic book has been read, the cord + bear is made by
combining the cord with the teddy. It is combined with the stick to make the
bear + stick.
DIARY (GREEN)
Found in the wardrobe in the second room from the right in the upstairs hall.
It is one of the items that has to be read before Trilby can get the white
magic book from the library.
DIARY (RED)
Found in the nightstand in the third room from the right in the upstairs
hall. It is one of the items that has to be read before Trilby can get the
white magic book from the library.
FAMILY HISTORY
Found by getting one of the blue books in the library. It is one of the items
that has to be read before Trilby can get the white magic book from the
library.
GROLLY
Available at the start of the game. After climbing outside the window from
the second room from the right on the upstairs hall, the grolly is used on
the loose tile so that Trilby can swing over to the other window.
LOCKPICK
Found by talking to Simone while in the shed on day 4. It is used on the shed
door.
LOCKPICKS
Found in the car outside the house on day 3. They are used on the shed door.
They are used on the second door from the right in the upstairs hall.
MACHETE
Found by talking to Jim on day 5. It is combined with the mask + strip to
make the mask + machete. After using the salty mask + machete to find the
skeleton in the bathroom, the scissors are combined with the salty mask +
machete to get the machete back. It is used on the tiles in the bathroom.
After the remains have been used on the floor in the trophy room, the machete
is one of the items that is used on the remains.
MASK + MACHETE
Made by combining the mask + strip with the machete. It is used on the salt
in the kitchen to make the salty mask + machete.
MASK + STRIP
Made by combining the welding mask with the strip. It is combined with the
machete to make the mask + machete.
METAL DETECTOR
Found by giving the plan to Philip on day 2. It is used on the pipeline at
the right side of the swimming pool.
NEWSPAPER
Found on the table in the lobby. It is one of the items that has to be read
before Trilby can get the white magic book from the library.
PICKAXE
Found in the shed on day 3. After making the salty bear + stick and looking
at the plan, the pickaxe is used on the left wall in the kitchen.
PLAN
After talking to Philip about the tomb on day 2, the plan is found by getting
the yellow book in the library. It is given to Philip. After making the salty
bear + stick, the plan is looked at so that the left wall in the kitchen can
then be selected.
REMAINS
Found by using the machete on the tiles in the bathroom on day 5. After
reading the black magic book, the remains are used on the floor in the trophy
room.
SALTY BEAR + STICK
Made by using the bear + stick on the salt in the kitchen. It is used on the
bed in the third room from the right in the upstairs hall. It is looked at in
the basement to direct Trilby to the location of the skeletons.
SALTY MASK + MACHETE
Made by using the mask + machete on the salt in the kitchen. It is used on
the chains in the basement on day 5. It is looked at in the bathroom to
direct Trilby to the location of the skeleton. The salty mask + machete is
then combined with the scissors to separate the machete and the welding mask.
SAW
Found in the shed on day 3. After Jim is following Trilby, the saw is used on
the tree outside the house.
SCISSORS
Found on top of the dresser in the sitting room on day 5. They are combined
with the scissors to make the strip. After using the salty mask + machete to
find the skeleton in the bathroom, the scissors are combined with the salty
mask + machete to separate the machete and the welding mask.
STICK
Found on the ground outside the house. It is combined with the cord + bear to
make the bear + stick.
STRIP
Made by combining the scissors with the apron. It is combined with the
welding mask to make the mask + strip.
TEDDY
Found on the bed in the third room from the right in the upstairs hall. After
the white magic book has been read, it is combined with the teddy to make the
cord + bear. It is given to Jim in the trophy room on day 5.
WELDING MASK
Found by talking to Jim on day 5. It is combined with the strip to make the
mask + strip. After the remains have been used on the floor in the trophy
room, the welding mask is one of the items that is used on the remains.
