Best rated Adventure Games page 234

Below you'll find an overview of Adventure Games that have received a very high rating based on our reviews, the list is sorted based on highest rated Adventure Game first combined with recency of the review we've done. Be sure to also check-out our Top 100 Adventure Games of all time, as well as the winners of the Adventure Game Awards (Aggies) that we hold on a yearly cadence.

East Side Story – A Carol Reed Mystery  (2007)

The charming locations, pretty graphics, and thoughtful, realistic storyline make East Side Story worth a look, though the bland presentation of its story and playable character leave the game short of its potential.

CSI: Hard Evidence  (2007)

If you liked the previous titles, this is more of the same. But don’t expect to see a big jump in quality; despite its subtitle, this game isn’t very hard, and there’s no evidence of real improvements.

Duckman  (1997)

A fun way to spend an afternoon for fans of the classic '90s cartoon-style adventures, but modern gamers may be underwhelmed.

King’s Quest V: Absence Makes the Heart Go Yonder!  (1990)

A step forward in graphics and interface; a step backward in story and character development. Play it if you're a King's Quest fan, but if you're just looking for a good point-and-click game, skip ahead to KQVI, which is so much better.

Aura 2: The Sacred Rings  (2007)

While The Sacred Rings has plenty of familiar gameplay to offer puzzle lovers, the absence of original ideas and creative spark means the game will have a limited appeal.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened  (2006)

The Awakened is a very uneven game, ranging from very poor to rather good, and the only consistent quality is its creepiness. It's worth considering if you need your horror fix, but Cthulhu will certainly forgive you if you decide to skip it.

HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN: The Ugly Prince Duckling  (2007)

A short, easy game that unfortunately lacks the characterisation and depth that could have made it more interesting to a wider audience. Still, it should certainly be of interest to fans of Hans Christian Andersen's work.

Agatha Christie: Murder on the Orient Express

Worth playing through for the story, but questionable design issues prevent it from being nearly the classic that comes bundled with it.

Time Stand Still – A Carol Reed Mystery  (2006)

Time Stand Still is a modest but enjoyable game. Its production values are not quite on par with professionally produced games, but it creates a nice level of anticipation for the next Carol Reed game.

Intrigue at Oakhaven Plantation  (2006)

Intrigue at Oakhaven Plantation is a short retro romp through a story that could have carried a much larger and more complex game. While it's a reasonably enjoyable diversion, it might be better received with a price reduction.

Touch Detective  (2006)

Touch Detective is a pretty average game that has the advantage of being one of the few adventures available for the Nintendo DS. It will tide you over until Phoenix Wright 2 comes out, but it's nothing special.

Nancy Drew: Danger by Design  (2006)

Still a solid game, but the venerable series is starting to show its age by recycling many elements.

Return to Ringworld  (1994)

Return to Ringworld delivers good sci-fi storytelling set in Larry Niven's Ringworld universe, but suffers from inconsistent and often frustrating gameplay.

The Da Vinci Code  (2006)

The Da Vinci Code is a decent modern adventure that gets bogged down by some ill-conceived design choices and technical weaknesses. There's fun to be had here, but you'll have to fight your way through the problems to reach it.

Daemonica  (2006)

A reasonably enjoyable game that aims to appeal to adventure and RPG fans, but one which never fully capitalises on its potential.
