very well implemented educational adventure for kids. i'm uncertain about 'for all ages' appeal tho.

I was surprised to find this game in the Adventure Gamers’ list of Top 20 Adventure Games of all time (at #19). So I thought I’d check it out even though, as an educational adventure game about American history aimed squarely at children, it normally wouldn’t be something i’d look twice at.

I found it a little troublesome to play on modern operating systems. And by half-way thru I was finding it a bit uninteresting for someone my age… y’know, an adult. But it’s an excellent example of achieving what it sets out to do i.e. make learning american history fun for kids.

The dialogue is snappy and well written. The story has just the right amount of wackiness to make it fun, but not weird. The main character Pepper shows a lot of personality. There are portions where you play as her dog Lockjaw (this is a particularly good way of keeping the gameplay interesting).

they also included included an innovative ‘truth’ tool that you can click on almost anything and it will tell you if that item/scenery/character/activity/whatever is a true example of what would’ve been in that time period or alternatively if it’s not at all part of that time period and something they’ve made up for the story.
