Review of Lake by shanethewolf

Nothing happens

I was lured in by the beautiful environments. They’ve done a good job creating that remote country town atmosphere. Despite some bugs and the simplicity of the engine, it’s perfectly functional.

However, if you’re expecting any kind of fun, engaging story or challenge…or actual point to the game, you’re going to be disappointed.

To be blunt, it’s so tedious! You go round delivering mail and listening to people rambling on about nothing of significance. This is exactly the kind of thing I try to avoid in real life.

I tried to spice things up a little by crashing the van or looking to provoke people with my dialog choices, but it’s clear this “game” wants you to be a model citizen and doesn’t want any drama.

I played for a while thinking there might be some kind of twist or I might stumble on some mystery to solve, or for the slightest hint of tension, but no, nothing of the kind.

The sad part is that it’s such a waste of potential. It could have developed into something engaging, like Firewatch, for example. Or it could have allowed a little freedom for mischief. But the developers clearly have any aversion to fun.
