Bad Controls

Lets start by saying this is not a point and click adventure. It doesnt even allow to use a mouse. So you either have to play with keyboard and move the character with the arrow keys or you could use a controller. I tried to connect my ps5 controller but i had problems with the sound. From what i read a lot of people had problems connecting their controllers. Anyway i played this on the pc using just the keyboard. There is a ps2 version that is supposed to play better but i cant speak about that.

So the controls are plain bad at keyboard. To give orders you need to push buttons all over the keyboard. Also half the times when i change screens i get back to previous one because of akward movement and camera. Trying to interact with items its annoying because you have to face the item, but controls make it hard to do so. Anyway controls for me was a major flaw of the game and i finished the game and didnt get used to them.

The game itself has some very hard puzzles, i think its the hardest of the series and i had to use a guide many times through my gametime. Having played the 3 previous games of the series before that there was some fatique with the humor of the game and the gameplay. In general gameplay and puzzles were ok but i wasnt excited.

I think this game hasnt aged well like the previous games of the series and if you add the akward controls i wouldnt suggest someone to play it unless you want to experience the whole series.

A nice platformer that took 6 hours to finish.

It has gorgeous graphics but mediocre platforming. Also it is not challenging and doesnt have puzzles except one close to the end.

The story is interesting although i didnt really understand how the ending message was connected with the rest of the game.

My opinion about the game is positive, its just a little pricy atm at 20 euros for the content it provides. But i dont mind supporting that kind of games.

This is like an expansion to first game Great Ace Attorney Adventures or rather the two games feel like a long one and not two separate games. There is nothing new here except the story so if you have played the first one you know what to expect
This game took me 47 hours to finish, longer than the first that i finished in 35 hours.
It has the same problems i noted on the review of the first game. I think the main problem is that the designer tried to make a very long game and didnt balance the content as big parts of the game are boring and not interesting.
The last case that concludes the story for the two games is exceptionally well made but i think few will have the patience to get there.
Good things about the game is the music that is really good and also the story has a lot of twists and layers.

An excellent adventure heavy on inventory puzzles and great humour. I cant really find anything negative to say about the game. If you like adventures you should play this.

My only criticism is that some of the puzzles are on the hard side and take some trial and error to solve. Considering this is a remastered i wish it had an ingame hint system to help with those hard puzzles.

For the positive aspects of the game read the official review of AG, with wich i agree mostly.

But… the game is boring. It took around 35 hours to finish the 5 cases but it felt a lot longer.

Before this i had played the original ace attorney trilogy so comparisons are unavoidable. So, if you exclude technical parts, i think this is inferior to original trilogy to almost everything. Gameplay is a lot weaker, contradiction finding is a lot easier and there is not enough challenge. Basically the game plays like a movie and when you get to make a decision most of the times its very obvious what to do. Story has a more serious tone and the absense of humor is a negative. Cases are too long, have many layers but it feels like a chore to get to the conclusion.

My overall feeling of the game is like watching a 3 hours movie that should have been an 1 hour and a half. I had big hopes for this one because i really liked the original trilogy but i wasnt hooked. Actually, i finished 3 other games while playing this one because i was losing my interest playing more than 1-2 hours each time and was getting bored.

Still i think its rating is between 3.5 and 4 stars because there was a lot of effort gone in storytelling and if you have the patience to go through the game there are many qualities.

Very good puzzle game with more than 500 puzzles. Its quite addictive and satisfying solving those hard puzzles.

There is no narrative or story so if you want that stay away. its pure puzzle solving. Also is very challenging and the game offers almost no help. There are some tutorial puzzles but they are scattered around and even those you need to decipher.

I wanted to rate it more than 4 stars but then there are many puzzles that are uneven. Some are very tedious and need a lot of patience and some are just unfair. Then there are the puzzles involving sounds that are cruel if you dont have a music ear.

The last game on the Ace Attorney trilogy. Finished it in 36 hours.

This one has 5 cases instead of 4 of the previous game. Likewise the first 2 games the last case is huge and takes forever.

Mechanics and gameplay is exactly the same as previous game which is kind of lazy if you consider there is 3 years between their development.

What i liked with this one is that cases and story is very well written. Characters are even more unique and exaggerating. Also this game wraps together the other games and finish the trilogy. So there is some excellent story writting here you rarely find at adventures.

My criticism is that at this point there is a certain degree of fatique playing those games. The gameplay formula is stale and gameplay becomes repetitive.

Also contradiction finding on cases is a lot more logical this time comparing to the second game. Only exception is last case where there are some points where its really hard to guess whats happening and you have to resort to trial and error. Finally last case has many twists and game tries to explain reasoning without being convincing. I liked the last case but i think that it drags forever and in the end its not very believable.

In general i rate the first game of the trilogy as the best, then the third one and last one the second.

Excellent Dlc

Took me 19 hours to finsh all puzzles of the dlc considering it was a replay but i didnt remember 90% of the puzzles.

This is an excellent dlc. There are 16 new normal puzzles, 16 stars and 7 final super hard puzzles. I managed to solve all normal puzzles on my own. Also managed to get some of the stars and 3 of the 7 final puzzles wihout help.

In general this is a very hard game and in no way someone should play this before the main game. The puzzles are very well thought and designed and they are a lot more complicated than main game.

Story, while there is a lot more text to read on the terminals, felt weaker than main game but still is pretty interesting and you will not get bored.

One thing i didnt like about dlc is that getting the stars involves a lot of platforming and parkour and getting objects out of the puzzles. Also most of them are very hard to understand how to get.

So my verdict is that the dlc is excellent and if you liked the main game you should definitely play this one also.

Finished in 28 hours, not including the dlc road to gehenna.

An excellent puzzle game that will have you scratching your head. I had played the game originally back when it came out and decided to replay it because i had good memories of the puzzles. I consider this game a classic by now. If you like puzzle games you should definitely play this one. Puzzles are original, unique and vary from medium difficulty to very hard. There is a very interesting story with many endings that will keep you hooked. There is also a lot of philosophy about human kind and artificial intelligence.

People comparing this with portal make it like this game is inferior but i would say that this is a completely diferent game. Its not like portal is the only good puzzler out there.

My only criticism is that some puzzles are very hard, especially those involving getting the stars and there isnt a real hint system. There is one that gives you 3 advises throught the game but its hard to unlock and the advise was vague and general and didnt find it helpful.

If you havent played it yet and you like puzzles you should get it and enjoy the experience.

The second game in the series. Finished in 35 hours.

This one is a lot more challenging than the first game. I had to trial and error a lot and keep guessing the contradictions. Constant saving and reloading was breaking the immersion. The difficulty is high, but you can scum save before every desicion and reload after. Of course you could do the same in the first game but this one is a lot more unforgiving so you have to keep saving and reloading.

The 4 cases are well written. First one is short and has the role of tutorial and last one is super long. The last 3 cases feel like they last forever and it can become boring sometimes because the story unfolds slowly.

There are 2 new additions in this game. Psyche locks which is locks you can break from characters when you present evidence and they tell you their secrets. Also you can present both evidence and persons this time.

In general this is a high quality game but not as good as the first one. The main problem is that the gameplay formula stays the same and if you consider those two games took me 71 hours to finish it can get boring doing the same thing over and over. But of course the cases and the story makes the difference as they are excellent.

If you have played first game and want more this will satisfy you, but if you havent played first one, do so first, as it is a better game.

This was the first ace attorney game i played and i did so on ps5 as part of the trilogy and finished it in 36 hours so its pretty lengthy.

It has 5 cases, the first 4 made in 2001 and the fifth and longer one at 2005.

I really enjoyed this game as it has an original concept and the story is well written and each case has many layers and twists to discover.

My only criticism about the game is that cases take too long to unravel and while i was enjoying the game i found myself taking breaks often while playing as it required full focus and there are tones of dialogues.

Average puzzle game with hard puzzles

Not many things stand out with this game. I didnt actually understand whats happening with story but the emphasis of the game is on puzzles. I wouldnt recommend it if you wanna enjoy a good narrative. Puzzles are uneven. Some of them are doable with some thinking and some of them seem impossible without checking a guide. The game has a limited hint system that is quite helpful. Only problem is that you can use the hints only limited times. That was a bad design in my opininion because its always better to have some subtle hints by the game than to have to check the internet for the solution.

Positive: Most of the puzzles are well designed and you will have fun with them if thats your thing, especially if you like very hard puzzles.

Negative: 1)Story, weak narrative and characters.
2)I found some bugs with ps5 version where in the end half the face of the protagonist was missing.
3)Its quite short. I finished it in around 5 hours. Not many puzzles if you consider that every puzzle is a trophy for ps5, which for some reason or bug wasnt showing at the console at the time i played it.
Also for 15 euros at the time i bought it its quite pricey for the time it takes to finish it.
4)Finally some very hard puzzles that you will probably need help to solve. I did check internet for the solution for 3 puzzles and used the in game hint system for a lot of them.

Played on ps5 and finished the story in 12 hours.

This is a very beautiful game with great graphics and music. The production value is very high. Acting is excellent and it has a great atmosphere. Its not exactly the traditional adventure as there are many stealth sections and some actions sequences towards the end of the game. Also there arent any real puzzles, just controlling the environment with distractions to go through. There is a crafting system and you gather materials and upgrade tools, which keeps the gameplay kinda interesting.

My only minor complain is that the aiming control is not that good and many times you end missing your shot which leads to instadying. Also the story is quite lengthy and getting through the stealth and action sections can get a little repetitive.

In general i enjoyed my time with the game, especially the story and the acting, and i look forward to play the sequel.

A nice top down adventure with cartoonish graphics and an open world map to explore.
You are controlling a brush, with wich you paint the environment and solving environmental puzzles. In general its an enjoyable game with some small flaws.
I played this on ps5 and finished the main story in 13 hours but i didnt do many sidequests or a lot of exploring. When i finished the game the map was open about 75%.

Pros: Nice cartoon graphics with a mature story. Music fits very good with the game.
There is a pretty large open map to explore which at the start is restricted but it opens up as you play and get more abilities.
Puzzles are on the easy side without gettting boring. Some of them need some thinking.
The idea of painting the world around you and solving puzzles with painting is pretty original.
There is a pretty good in game hint system if you are stuck somewhere.

Cons: Graphics and top down view make some puzzles annoying to understand because its hard to know what height you are on, so there is some trial and error involved.
Dialogs while mature they became boring fast because they seem to never end and they are kinda repetitive.
While there is a big open map, side questing is mostly about gathering collectibles.
Also colors are not part of the puzzles. That was a missed opportunity for me. You basically activate triggers for puzzles but it doesnt matter what color you are using. So in the end diferent colors are only for painting around creatively.
Also boss fights are kinda annoying and are dragging for long while there is no real strategy involved on beating them. Good thing that you are able to customize them to make the easier or even skip them if you are not interested.

No matter the flaws of the game, i think its a pretty original and fun game, which i suggest you should try.

Yoomurjak’s ring is not an easy game to review. Its the first FMV adventure i have played so i cant really compare it with other of its kind. If i had to summarize my experience i would say that is a game with high production standards, good actors, good story, nice pacing and pretty long. But at the same time i think it fails miserably of creating a fun gameplay experience. Playing the game without a walkthrough or a guide is very frustrating. There are very few hints in the game and you get stuck very often. There is almost no direction on what to do. Also there is a lot of pixel hunting and failing to find an interaction on screen leads to dead ends without the game hinting about it. I played more than half of the game with a walkthrough and the puzzles kept getting harder and with fewer hints. I would not advise this game to an average player if he isnt gonna use a walkthrough. If you are a hardcore gamer with a lot of experience and a lot of time and patience you will probably like the game because excluding puzzles and difficulty rest of the game is pretty interesting and fun.

Played on ps5 and finished it in 5 hours.

An enjoyable adventure with enviromental puzzles. Most part of the game you control the size of items and use them to solve puzzles in two identical worlds where one is miniature of the other. The puzzles have medium difficutly generally and need some thinking. I was stuck 4 times through the game and had to look for hints. Last chapter has some quite difficult puzzles. On ps5 there are hints with the new game help feature that makes it easier to check for if you cant solve a puzzle. I found the puzzles fun but at the same time some of them took some time to figure out and needed a lot of imagination.

I liked the story that has a mature tone and is about relations. There is no interaction with other people as the game has no npc. You are just alone exploring, sovling puzzles and having memories of your relation.

Graphics are great, music also is pretty good.

Only negative i can say is that controlling the items you find is not that smooth and fluid, and there is some effort involved when you try to place them with the right angle. Also, technically the game seemed to drop frames at some times but nothing that would affect gameplay.

Verdict: A nice, fun but short adventure that i would suggest trying if you like enviromental puzzles. It costs around 15-20 euro at the moment on steam and ps5 which is a nice price for the content and fun it offers.

I didnt really like this one. The prequel “Enchanter” is a lot more interesting. It suffers from all the bad designs that used to be normal back then with adventures but the limitations are very severe on this one. There is item management, there is time limit, there are too many dead ends, but what i found not fun at all is that in order to procceed and solve the puzzles you just need to keep try stuff, fail, restore game, try again. The whole proccess of constantly saving, doing an action and then restoring is not fun. Also there is a time puzzle in the game that is hard to understand and involves a maze that you have to cross in limited turns. If i didnt allready have a map from internet, mapping this would make me hate the game. There is another maze too, not very original imo that you ll have to trial and error to map. Spells and potions are fun to cast and experiment but you still need to save and restore every time as potions are used in the process.

As a verdict i would say that this game is a lot worse than previous game “enchanter” as it is a lot harder and tedious and not that interesting.

One of the weakest infocom text adventures i have played so far. The main problem i found with with this adventure is that to solve the puzzles you need to decipher hieroglyphics. From the manual of the game you get the meaning of 5 or 6 of them and you have to guess the others. This doesnt really work as there are many words. You could guess some numbers but other than that if you dont get the dictionary from internet you wont be able to understand how the puzzles work. Story has to do with egypt and pyramids and looking for treasures so it is interesting as a concept. I also liked the ending of the game, diferent from the other infocom adventures. Too bad i couldnt enjoy the puzzles because of the hieroglyphics.

Pros:

Nice graphics
Beautiful setting
Great music
Ok story
A big amount of logical puzzles with great variety
Great hint system nicely implemented in the game.
Great value for money. I bought the game for like 3 euros from steam and spent around 35 hours with it.

Cons:

Most of the puzzles are cryptic and very difficult to solve without using the hint system. Also they have the same concept. You are operating devices - mini games that you need to understand how they work and what is the goal. There is a lot of trial and error involved in the procedure of solving them. Also some of them are very tedious to solve having to do a lot of legwork even if you know what to do.

The voice acting is lacking.

There is a lot of backtracking in the game and running around the academy is not fun.

Viewing angles are disorienting and its hard to find your way until you familiarize with academy.

The game was crashing a lot. I used the steam version. In my 35 hours of playtime i had more than 15 crashes. Also at a specific puzzle it kept crashing constantly (i think it was 5 times in a row). Also, game crashed during the ending credits.

Verdict: A decent adventure that i would recommend to players who dont mind using the in game hint system and like hard logic puzzles.

A very hard text adventure

This adventure has a pretty interesting concept. There is no main hero but you control 6 robots, each with different characteristics. One robot can see, one can listen, one can feel etc. So you need to use more robots together to tackle the puzzles. The text parser is high quality like the rest of infocom text adventures. The vocabulary is rich and in general the design quality is high. The game considers you have a map to play (a map was provided with the game manual). The only problem with the game is the over the top difficulty. There is a time limit and you have little time to explore and generally trying to solve the puzzles. So you have to restart a lot. The game itsself is pretty short, you can finish it in 15-20 min if you know what to do and there arent many puzzles but even those few puzzles could take forever to figure out without a guide or walkthrough. I did use a lot the excellent hint system by infocom called invisiclues and had some fun. But without using hints or walkthrough this is frustratingly hard. Most people that will start this game will probably stop at the begining because of the dificulty which is pitty as the game becomes easier as you understand how it works and it has some very smart and enjoyable puzzles.

A short and easy andventure, with an easy maze and no red herrings. Its quite enjoyable and you dont need a guide or map to play if you have some experience with text parsers. Hardest part of the game is the item management as you can only carry 4 at a time and all items are needed one way or another so you basically need to figure out the puzzles and then try to manage the items in the right way. If you wanna try an adventure with text parser this is a good choice.

This adventure was the first that used a real time feature. If you waited some time before you issue a command, the parser issues automatically the wait command and moves time. That actually means that npcs continue to do their thing while you dont issue commands to parser, unless you type the pause command. Real time means npc may kill each other and make the game unbeatable, while you are doing something else at diferent part of the map. This is very frustrating as you try to figure the puzzles and you realize after a point that a important npc has died. I dont recommned playing this one unless you are hardcore fun of tolkien and you willing to go through the complete randomness of the game.

Of all the early andventures this one and Calixto Island from same developer are the most accessible. No red herrings, very easy mazes and they are short and fun to play. With a little effort they can be completed without a guide. I recommend those two games if you just wanna experience the early days of adventuring.
