Wayward Strand Takes Flight today

Did you ever have to write one of those papers in school about what you did on your summer vacation? Casey Beaumaris, protagonist of Ghost Pattern’s Wayward Strand, is doing just that, and by the sounds of things, it’s going to be a hard one for her classmates to top.

It’s the summer of 1978, and Casey is “trying to make the most of her holidays.” She “prefers the company of books to people,” but when Casey’s mother asks her to spend a long weekend aboard the airborne hospital where she works, Casey agrees, “secretly planning to write an article about her visit for the school newspaper.”

Using Casey’s notebook “to delve deeper into peoples' stories,” players can make “new discoveries, and to piece together mysteries” while aboard the ship. There are over a dozen characters to interact with, and the lives of these characters “unfold around you in real time, as you roam freely throughout each day.” In Wayward Strand, “life goes on around you as you play,” and Casey will have to “choose which story to be a part of by following people, having conversations, and exploring the hospital.”

The game features a fully voiced cast of characters and gorgeous 3D ligne claire-esque cell-shaded visuals. Wayward Strand launches today, September 15th, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam).
