The Prophecy partly fulfilled on Steam Early Access

Prophecies tend to foretell either the coming of great disaster or the means to salvation from said disaster. Which of those is true (or neither, or both) is entirely up to you to find out in indie developer Start Warp's fantasy adventure The Prophecy, the first part of which has just been released on Steam Early Access.

The game is set in a magical world where strange creatures exist and unusual events are commonplace. Young Jacob is an "average medieval boy" living in a peaceful village "where life is good and quiet." All that changes when the "image of an unknown wizard" appears to Jacob in the lake, urging the boy to "deliver an urgent message to the court wizard Merlin, in order to warn him about fulfilling prophecy #13." What is this mysterious prophecy? That remains to be seen, but it's far from your biggest concern as the journey from the village to Merlin's castle is filled with challenges for the young protagonist to overcome.

Inspired by the genre's "best retro games of the 90s," this classic-styled point-and-click adventure sends players through a variety of charming pixel art locations, from a scenic autumn-hued village into the murky depths of caves and dungeons. Each has its own characters to meet, items to discover and puzzles to solve if you're to play your crucial role in protecting not just Jacob's own village but the entire kingdom from peril.

While the complete game isn't due to be finished until later this year, a preliminary version of The Prophecy has already been launched on Steam for Windows PC. Currently "30% of locations and content are ready," providing approximately one hour of gameplay, with the rest of the story and "more locations, music themes and sounds" to follow within the next three to six months.
