Simon The Sorcerer returning to his Origins

There have been 5 Simon the Sorcerer games, including more recently the 25th Anniversary editions (of questionable quality) and an attempt at rebooting the franchise in 2014 with Simon the Sorcerer: Between Worlds. The latter would feature Simon in his 40s developed by the studio StoryBeasts, unfortunately due to funding and publisher issues the game never saw the light of day and StoryBeasts sadly was never heard of again. The fate of Simon the Sorcerer was unclear for a very long period of time, until the announcement of the prequel!

Simon The Sorcerer: Origins is the official prequel of the legendary Simon The Sorcerer's adventure saga and transports players back to a few weeks before the events of the first episode, set in 1993. Simon will return for the first time to the absurd world of the Sorcerers unleashing an ancient prophecy and gaining ancient magical powers. Crafted with a modern visual style filled with seamless realtime sequences, magic and puzzle solving tied together with an engrossing storyline that will finally answer some important questions raised by fans from the first game. The game is being developed by Smallthing Studios and published by Leonardo Interactive (known for publishing titles such as Willy Morgan, Martha is Dead and Dry Downing).

"We are very excited to finally be able to announce Simon the Sorcerer – Origins and to have embarked on the exciting journey of its development with Smallthing Studios,” comments Leonardo Caltagirone, founder of Leonardo Interactive. “It is our long-standing desire to revive one of the most beloved and iconic characters in the video game industry. Our goal will be to bring a new world to life with beautiful modern visuals and new gameplay mechanics to tell Simon’s untold story in its prequel, Origins ."

The first teaser suggests we can expect a gorgeous hand-painted cartoon-style adventure , further details are unclear such as who will voice Simon. No further story details have been unveiled just yet, beyond clarifying that the timeline is set "a few weeks before the events of the first episode, set in 1993". We'll keep a close eye on the official website, so you can stay tuned to Adventure Gamers for much more in the coming days and weeks as we begin the agonizing wait for the game's release next year.

Set to be released the 28th of March, 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch. In the meantime you can already wishlist the game on it's Steam page.
