Just Ignore Them draws new attention with Brea’s Story Tape 1 launch

In 2017, indie developer Stranga Games quietly released a little retro-styled horror adventure called Just Ignore Them. Apparently enough gamers ignored that titular advice to warrant a follow-up in the form of a recently released prequel called Just Ignore Them: Brea's Story Tape 1.

While story details are intentionally sparse and best left to players to discover for themselves, the game is set prior to the events of its predecessor, in which a young boy struggled to contend with the monsters that invaded his house one particularly torturous night. This time around, players control Brea Tena, who is "on her way to cover the biggest story of her career" when she unwittingly stumbles into "a dark mysterious town called Ash Pines, the birthplace of the tragic events that took place in Just Ignore Them."

As before, Brea's Story Tape 1 is presented from an overhead retro-RPG-styled point of view, though the pixel art aesthetic is noticeably more refined and detailed this time around. Heavily inspired by Hideo Kojima's Snatcher and Snatcher SD, the game promises "a new perspective" on events from the previous game, with a variety of unique characters to meet and "branching gameplay paths" to experience as your choices affect the way the narrative plays out along the way.

The full budget-priced version of Just Ignore Them: Brea's Story Tape 1 is available now to download for Windows PC on Steam and itch.io, while the latter also offers a playable demo for those who'd like to freely sample the game beforehand.
