GRUNND: A Surreal Adventure Game
SEKTAHOUSE, an award-winning one-man game studio based in Riga, Latvia, is set to release its debut title GRUNND today. GRUNND is a point-and-click narrative adventure game that offers players a unique blend of platformer-inspired locales, fast travel, and branching multiple-choice events that must be navigated to unravel the game's mysterious narrative.
The game's creator and director, Olafs Osh, "With GRUNND I wanted to tell a story that is not overburdened with puzzles and irrelevant actions. Primarily I want the player to enjoy the narrative and have it stay with them after they’ve finished the game. GRUNND is only the beginning, we are working on expanding the universe with more narratives and transmedia projects”
GRUNND's world is a homage to the works of David Lynch and Franz Kafka and is set in a surreal and captivating Southern Gothic-inspired location. The game's protagonist finds themselves having overslept on a train ride home and jumps off at the next station, finding themselves in the seemingly ordinary town of Bytown just before sundown. However, as they explore the town, they soon discover that things are not as they seem and that many of its inhabitants have their own agendas.
The game's developer, Olafs Osh, has a passion for storytelling, which is evident in his work on podcasts and inspirations. "GRUNND is more than just another narrative. It is a deep dive into a bleak world and, despite its murky undertones, speaks to the complex nature of people and what propels us to keep pushing onwards," said Vic Bassey, representative of Bright Gambit, the initiative that funded the game. GRUNND is one of six indie titles funded under the Bright Gambit Initiative. It was launched in January 2022 to support small indie developers and studios by helping them fund their debut titles.
The game is available today and can be downloaded from Steam and GOG.com, while its Prologue demo can be downloaded for free on Itch.io.
