FixFox tooling up for late-March release
Ever played an adventure where you’ve got the perfect tool for a job but aren’t allowed to use it? In Rendlike’s upcoming sci-fi adventure FixFox, that’s the very challenge you’ll need to overcome on a worldwide scale when it releases on PC at the end March.
Vix is a fox-human hybrid with a penchant for repairing things, which usually serves her well in her job as a space mechanic. Unfortunately for Vix, she crash-lands on the planet of Karamel, where tools are forbidden. Undeterred by this setback, she sets out to traverse the world accompanied by her “trusty toolbox Tin,” and together the pair begin “discovering hidden stashes left by pirates, repairing friendly household appliances, and sampling tasty local delicacies.” In doing so, they’ll need to solve “whimsical puzzles” as they get caught up in a “cosmic mystery that transcends existence.”
Presentation is distinctly retro in style, with cheerful chiptunes and pretty top-down pixel art graphics for the planet's surface, interspersed with screens of close-up puzzle solving and inventory manipulation. Players can freely explore Karamel on foot or climb on Vix’s scooter, clearing a path of obstacles with a “hefty power loader.” Along the way you’ll have the chance to repair many of the machines you encounter, from “sentient kitchen appliances” to gigantic mechs. Tools are understandably scarce, but luckily you can use “anything and everything you come across” to help you in your quests, whether “coins, bandages, glowy bananas… anything really.”
It’s not just the equipment that needs repairing, however, as the local inhabitants themselves need help, such as estranged siblings seeking reunion and traumatised artificial intelligences; eventually you’ll even become involved in “an ongoing feud between two planet factions.” In between all your efforts, you can relax in camp and take in a peaceful sunrise, or indulge in a meal with some new friends. (Hint: robots will happily give you information in exchange for hospitality!)
FixFox is set for release at the end of March for Windows and Mac, and you can now add it to your Steam wishlist. There's also an official website where you can learn more about the game and register for a newsletter in the meantime.
