First details cracked open for Zid Journey

Dinosaurs aren't extinct, they just moved to the world of video games. At least, so Azure Mountain would have us believe, as the indie Polish developer is working on the next game in their prehistoric "Zid and Zniw Chronicles" series called Zid Journey.

Once again set in the Cretaceous period, the sequel to Zniw Adventure stars a young dinosaur named Zid, who sets off in search of "the lost parents of a tyrannosaur hatchling (Daspletosaurus)" that he carries with him on his back. Throughout the land of Polisemia he will meet both friend and foe, "exploring new landmarks and settlements while learning about the difficult relationship between predator and prey." There will be numerous obstacles to overcome, but "the tiny dino in your backpack will give you some hints and help in other ways" along the way. There will even be some playable segments where you take control of the baby Daspletosaurus itself.

As with its predecessor, Zid Journey will be a bright cartoon-styled adventure with traditional point-and-click mechanics and gameplay that is suitable for both genre newcomers and experienced gamers alike. There will be some differences this time, however, such as a full widescreen display and an "improved one-click verb coin" interface. Certain familiar faces will return, along with a number of new ones as you meet "more than 20 different prehistoric creatures during your journey – including seldom seen ones like Mercuriceratops, Citipes, and Albertonectes." The optional in-game encyclopedia is also back, which will automatically fill with "interesting game lore and cool dinosaur facts" you discover in your travels.

It's too early for any firm target release date, but we should see Zid Journey launched on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux sometime in late 2023.
