Demo cooked up for Bakö

Our pre-teens are some of the most formative years of our lives. Not only are we discovering who we are, but we come to see those closest to us in a different light than ever before. Nowhere is this more true than in Polish developer Dead Cat Studio’s upcoming Bakö, about a boy uncovering the “deeply hidden secrets” that torment his family.

The titular twelve-year-old protagonist one day finds himself on “the other side of reality,” where he's able to explore a nightmarish rendition of his home and begin to see his family’s demons with disturbing clarity. In observing them, young Bakö now sees “a great pain tormenting their souls and minds,” and he's determined to find a way to help them. In this psychological tale of buried trauma, however, things are not as they seem, and during the course of the adventure players will likely question who needs help more, Bakö or the family he is trying to save.

A side-scrolling 2D adventure about “family, life and death,” Bakö challenges players to escape a horrifying limbo by solving a number of “stylised riddles and puzzles” and reading through psychologists' journals to uncover the source of the demons and the reason why they have appeared. Featuring hand-drawn 2D art and animation, Bakö establishes its dark horror atmosphere with surreal environments and creepy visual effects coupled with an “emotional soundtrack” and sound design intended to “send shivers down your spine.”

Bakö does not currently have a release date, but a demo is available now on Steam for Windows PC, providing a creepy early glimpse of what's to come.
