Yoko Redux dreams of Windows, Mac and Linux release

Noir-steeped mysteries are traditionally presented in black and white, but indie developer Missing Sentinel Software has five (and precisely five) other colours in mind for the upcoming Yoko Redux: Dreams of a Blue Planet

The game takes place in Novo Redentor, Brazil circa 2043, in a cyberpunk setting "where human consciousness comes in a hard physical shell" just waiting to be hacked. While details about the "cryptic" story are intentionally sparse, it centers on three different characters on their respective journeys to "discover the truth about their very existence." In alternating control between Locke, Jeanne and Primus, you'll need to "try to hold on to your sanity through mind-bending visuals, cinematic camera angles and a logic-twisting story and you may discover... who is Yoko?"

Backed by full voice acting and a "smooth jazz" soundtrack, Yoko Redux is presented in a distinctive low-poly art style with a largely blue/green palette and a "vibe of cool logic and mechanical precision." Perhaps the more important colour is red, however, as it denotes all interactive items of interest. As you explore seven "expansive" levels from the different points of view of the three protagonists, you will need to "make connections with a cast of questionable contacts to find clues, solve riddles and locate the special items necessary to open your way forward." And if you need a break, you can always stop and play a game of cards called Narspel Jacks with one of your contacts.

There will be seven chapters in total, but the developer is planning to launch the first three through Early Access sometime in May, with each subsequent chapter released two months apart on Steam and itch.io until the game is complete, all of them included in a single purchase price. For a sample taste of this "science fiction world of wonder" right away, a playable demo is available now to download for Windows, Mac and Linux.
