First solid details emerge for DE-EXIT: Eternal Matters

The good news is: death isn't the end. The bad news is: what awaits is anything but heaven and it falls to you to rescue the very plane of afterlife existence. Then again, for adventure gamers used to saving the world, that may be even better news when indie Spanish developer SandBloom Studio's DE-EXIT: Eternal Matters arrives on PC.

Following your earthly demise, you wake up in the "Plane of Memory," a surreal world where everything seems so different than what you left behind. This place is supposed to be "a safe haven, almost paradise," but instead you find it on the verge of collapse, having been "corrupted, torn apart from the inside", leaving the inhabitants without hope. If you don't find a way to "bring back the light that will get rid of the corruption," the entire realm – and your own existence within it – is doomed. The only way to survive and succeed is by "sneaking from corrupted enemies, solving intricate puzzles, [and] finding the best path to take among the rubble of this broken world."

DE-EXIT's presentation is an unusual contrast between "minimalistic voxel aesthetic and simple textures on one side, [and] complex cinematographic features, more realistic VFX, and even motion capture animation on the other." As you progress through a land full of "strange, unexpected sights and grandiose sceneries," there will be some light platforming and stealth elements to overcome, but the gameplay is designed to be "easily accessible," providing a "thrilling journey without needing to be a hardcore player." And while the game's subject matter may seem morbid, really the opposite is true as its themes are explored in a positive and "heartwarming way" in what the developers refer to as an "ode to life."

There is no target release date for DE-EXIT: Eternal Matters just yet, but upon its completion we can expect to see the game launched on Steam for Windows PC. To learn more about the game in the meantime, you can follow its progress through the official website.
