Kickstarter infiltrated by The Shapeshifter 2

Following the success of this year's Game Boy exclusive The Shapeshifter, now solo developer Dana Puch of Greenboy Games is gearing up for even more ambitious sequel, though it will need some crowdfunding support to come to full fruition.

Picking up where its predecessor left off, The Shapeshifter 2 once again puts players in the role of Elliott, a boy bestowed with the gift to change into any animal he touches in order to save an elven world from a wizard's spell. To succeed you'll need to make strategic use of the creatures around you to "fly, swim, croak, cackle, bray, roar, growl, and meow, among other curious skills." It won't be easy even with all these abilities, as the things you thought would be simple get more "complicated with every step you take." Indeed, it soon becomes clear that "nothing is what it seems in this fantasy world."

The sequel of course features the same green-tinged monochromatic art style so familiar to Game Boy titles of yesteryear. Surprisingly, however, this game will require not one but two cartridges (or two ROM files) to play. The added capacity allows for a choose-your-own-adventure style of gameplay, in which player choice dictates the direction of the game and will require swapping cartridges and inserting humorous 'Adventure Codes' to continue. This ensures a "completely different" experience "from the beginning to the end" each time you play.

In order to bring The Shapeshifter 2 to Game Boy, Game Boy Color, GameBoy Advance and other compatible handhelds, the developer has launched a Kickstarter campaign that ends November 30th. The initial €6,000 goal has already been surpassed in the first 24 hours, but there are additional stretch goals remaining that will add additional content. If all goes well, we should see the game released to backers in both digital and physical formats as early as next September.
