Dexter Stardust preparing to settle sometime in 2020

Many sci-fi adventures point to machines as the inevitable downfall of humanity. But in indie developer Sea Monster Media's upcoming sci-fi comic adventure Dexter Stardust, one lone robot may just might hold the secret to our survival – with a little help from a most unlikely human hero, that is.

When the "inhabitants of the menacing Planet X" known as the Vreesians attack Earth with a "fleet of robots" sent to annihilate the human species, Dexter Stardust barely manages to escape the onslaught. Two decades later, however, a "mechanical man from the 10th planet seeks to communicate with Dexter a very important message – he is the key to saving both humans and Vreesians!" Now it's up to the "taco-loving Dexter Stardust as he and his good friend Aurora go on the greatest adventure of their lives and discover the mystery of the Robot from the Planet X."

The creation of solo designer Jeremy Fryc, Dexter Stardust is described as a classic-styled "Futurama-esque" point-and-click adventure with a verb wheel interface. Fully voice-acted with stylish 4K hand-drawn artwork and frame by frame animation, the game will send players to a number of unique planets comprising "well over" 100 screens filled with amusing "spacey-campiness" and plenty of items to collect and puzzles to solve along the way. The four distinct chapters will feature their own settings and scenarios while tying loosely into the overarching story, giving the experience a somewhat TV-like episodic feel. Puzzle quantity and difficulty will vary between episodes that range from forty minutes to two hours to complete, as indicated by the in-game chapter selection screen.

While waiting for Dexter Stardust's "Season One" release sometime later this year for Windows, Mac and iOS devices, you can check out the free bonus episode in which Dexter and Aurora are in the middle of a routine shipment of dashboard hula girls to the planet Venus when "the impulsive Dexter takes a wrong turn and has to get the delivery back on track. But something lies ahead for Dexter . . . something that will change him forever." Dubbed "Episode 0," this standalone demo can be downloaded from itch.io or Game Jolt. To learn more about the game itself, be sure to check out the official website for additional details.
