When you look back on your life at its journey's end, what memories will you cling to, whether good or bad? Players will share in just such a reflection for one man when Spanish studio Piccolo's Arise – A Simple Story is launched later this year on PC and consoles.
Following his death the protagonist finds himself in limbo, but for players that not the end of the tale but only the beginning as you are given the chance to "relive crucial events of his life as you make your way towards the mesmerizing light beckoning from a mountaintop." There will be many "specific turning point" memories to revisit from the man's "long life filled with relatable moments of joy and sorrow," along with a number of challenges to overcome. Fortunately, you have been given the "gift of time manipulation to help you overcome many obstacles along the way."
Beautifully presented in third-person 3D, Arise will send players through a variety of "evocative environments" that can be directly affected as you "control the flow of time and change your surroundings from the shifting of seconds to entire seasons." Intended to convey an "emotional journey through a lifetime full of bliss and sorrow," this "heartwarming love story" between two people can be played alone or with a second player to "help you control time and enjoy the journey together."
'Twill be the season for deep reflection when Arise is upon us, as the game is scheduled to be launched on the Epic Games Store for PC, along with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions on December 3rd. Pre-orders come with a digital soundtrack by composer David García, whose score for Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Music.
