Don't look now, but autumn is fast approaching for those north of the equator, and with that comes the inevitable news of horror games on the horizon, including the next installment of the newly-minted Spirit Hunter series, NG.
The "companion story" to last year's Death Mark tells the story of a "cursed young man on a life-threatening quest to discover who—or what—is responsible for the disappearance of his little sister." If he is to save his missing sibling, the protagonist must "team up with shady characters, face down spirits of legend, and make difficult decisions that can greatly alter the outcome." But players must beware, lest you "find yourself just another victim of an angry spirit."
As with its predecessor, NG offers a blend of stylish hand-drawn visual novel elements and adventure-style investigative gameplay. The decisions you make are integral to the experience, as you "navigate choices via a 'Judge System,' allowing [you] to respond to each event with a spectrum of reactions." In between, finding clues requires a flashlight to thoroughly "examine each location in order to solve the game’s terrifying mystery." Unlike the first game, which "found its spirits in distinct, horrifying locales," this game "weaves fear seamlessly into the mundane" as you "face down monsters in quiet residential streets, neighborhood parks, and even the protagonist’s own home." This is a world where "terror lurks behind every corner."
Just in time to help get you in the mood for Halloween, Spirit Hunter: NG is due to be launched on October 10th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Vita. To learn more about the game, visit the official website for additional details and preorder links.
