Blair Witch development almost out of the woods

She's baaaaack! Or perhaps she never really went away. Two decades after the groundbreaking The Blair Witch Project popularized the "found footage" horror movie, the eponymous legend is still going strong, this time in the form of Bloober Team's upcoming Blair Witch.

In a brand-new story "based on the cinematic lore of Blair Witch," the year is 1996 when a young boy "disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland." Players control Ellis, a "former police officer with a troubled past" in search of the missing child. Unfortunately, as you might expect, "what starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods."

Also as you'd expect from the creators of >observer_ and the Layers of Fear series, Blair Witch is a first-person, free-roaming adventure in which you must "navigate your way through a cursed forest that warps and distorts both time and space." As your "darkest fears awaken" along the way, players must deal with the "decaying sanity of a man burdened by his past." The way you choose to confront the terrors before you is your choice to make, as "how you react to danger and behave under pressure will ultimately teach you more about yourself."

What you probably won't expect is just how close Blair Witch is to completion, as the game is scheduled to launch on GOG and Steam for Windows PC, as well as on Xbox One and Xbox One X. To learn more about the game in the coming months, drop by the official website for complete details.
