Holmes and Watson; Batman and Robin; Jake and the Fatman – world-renowned investigative pairs, all. But now a new, much furrier duo is preparing to take the stage, courtesy of indie developer Cave Monsters' upcoming debut adventure.
Lord Winklebottom is a most gentlemanly giraffe gifted with a sharp mind and keen intellect. Together with his hippo companion Dr. Reginald Frumple, he is on the case of who killed the late Admiral Gilfrey shortly after he invited the pair to his isolated island. In the point-and-click mystery Lord Winklebottom Investigates: The Case of the Expired Axolotl, players will search for clues, solve puzzles, and interrogate other anthropomorphized animal suspects in order to find the truth.
Presented in stylish hand-painted art as displayed in the early screenshots, the game will be a fairly traditional point-and-click adventure, with an on-screen Winklebottom reacting to player interactions with the environments without actually moving around himself. The story takes place in an alternate version of the 1920s, one where humans do not exist, and is aimed at both experienced adventurers as well as younger gamers.
While Charlotte Sutherland, the sole member of Cave Monsters, may not be a familiar name just yet, she comes from a background of working on AAA titles. For Lord Winklebottom, her first big solo project, she has her sights set on a simultaneous PC and console release by the end of 2019, with mobile platforms to follow.
