Most adventures games are more about the journey than the destination, but that is especially true of Shifting Tides' appropriately-titled The Sojourn, a fantastical 3D puzzler coming next year.
The Sojourn thrusts players in the first-person role of someone "born into a beautiful, pure land." As so often happens with seeming utopias, however, you'll soon learn that "everything is not as it seems. Darkness seeps through every crevice and forms the foundation of the world you live in." At last able to see beyond the idyllic surface appearances to the hidden shadows behind it, you must set out to "traverse parallel worlds of light and darkness in search of answers to the nature of reality."
The developers aren't lying about the "beautiful" part, as several of the game's eye-popping environments are on display in the first screenshots and trailer released. The game will be split into four chapters, each promising a "distinct atmosphere and style" of its own, and players will be tasked with "solving dozens of unique puzzles that will challenge your perception of your own reality."
There is no firm release date yet for The Sojourn, but the game is on track to be published by Iceberg Interactive on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One sometime in 2019.
