First clues uncovered for new Jake Hunter mystery
Jake Hunter has been slacking. At least, the English version of Jake Hunter has (his Japanese counterpart Jinguji Saburo has been much busier). It's been nearly a decade since we last saw the hard-boiled PI in Memories of the Past. At long last, however, Nintendo 3DS owners can look forward to a new Jake Hunter mystery called Ghost of the Dusk.
This time around, Hunter finds himself embroiled in a case involving the accidental death of a homeless man at a mysterious mansion. Upon his arrival, the detective finds that "all is not as it appears at the seemingly innocuous crime scene, and Jake can’t shake the hunch that something is amiss." Suspecting foul play, Jake enlists the help of an old friend in order to "get to the bottom of the crime and uncover the true culprit’s identity. But when the mansion’s owner comes to Jake with a new proposal, things take a turn for the bizarre as dark secrets are forced from the shadows. Now, it’s up to Jake to track down the source of the madness."
As with its predecessor, the world of Jake Hunter is a gritty one "populated by shady characters, dubious allies, and more than a hint of the supernatural" with plenty of hand-drawn, graphic novel-style artwork. In order to "separate fact from fiction," players will need to hone their investigative instincts as they "question suspects, search crime scenes, and zero in on inconsistencies to discover the truth." You can also be on the lookout for passwords hidden throughout that will unlock side stories and bonus features.
Unless you have a 3DS you'll be out of luck, but those who own Nintendo's handheld device can anticipate the release of Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk sometime before the end of this year in both physical and digital form.
