Indiegogo campaign created for The Maker’s Eden

And on the first day, there was crowdfunding... Okay, that may not be chronologically accurate, but the indie developers of The Maker's Eden have launched an Indiegogo campaign for their "sci-fi noir crime-drama point & click adventure in the style of a motion comic."

A first-person animated adventure from Screwy Lightbulb Entertainment, The Maker's Eden begins with players inside a stasis pod with "no knowledge of who or what you are. You have been given no memories, so for all it seems, you are nobody... but why are people after you, and why do they want you dead?" The rest of the plot remains intentionally sketchy for now, though its distinctive "retro-futuristic noir inspired setting" promises to be "rich with history and socio-political commentary with clues to the past and present scattered around for you to find."

As glimpsed in the game's announcement trailer, although The Maker's Eden uses the familiar slideshow format adventure gamers have become accustomed to, the developers are "building every hand-painted scene with a sense of depth created by layers and camera movement" and adding "just enough environmental effects and animation to not break the comic-book style presentation." The gameplay promises to be "character and story driven with a heavy emphasis on discovery", with puzzles designed "such that they don't break the flow of the story."

The first of three planned acts of The Maker's Eden could be finished in as little as three months of full-time production, but in order to allow that, the developers have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $10,000 by July 18th. The plan for a successful campaign is to finish Act 1 with the funds raised, then use its post-campaign sales to finance the remaining two acts, although the stretch goals will eliminate any uncertainty by funding the full series in its entirety. A $10 pledge will earn backers a DRM-free download of the game for Windows, Mac, or Linux.

For more information about the game and to contribute to its fundraising campaign, visit the Indiegogo page for full details. Note that as a flexible funding campaign, all pledges made will go to the developers, even if the total goal is not met. You can also vote for the game through Steam Greenlight in the meantime.
