Alice may have explored an alternate world through a looking-glass, but Lilly has her own special pair of goggles that open up a creative new fantasy adventure called Lilly Looking Through.
Produced by indie developers Geeta Games, Lilly Looking Through tells the story of a girl named Lilly, who discovers a pair of glasses that help her view the world in another dimension. Once bespectacled, players must guide the young heroine “through a variety of enchanting environments brimming with magic and wonder, as she seeks to rewrite the past, change the present, and unlock the ultimate mystery.”
As the first teaser suggests, Lilly Looking Through has a certain Tim Burton-meets-Samorost vibe. The game presents a series of gorgeous linear locations to explore and tricky environmental puzzles to solve, which you can already sample for yourselves in the playable demo available from the official website. The demo begins innocently enough, with Lilly pursuing her windblown scarf, and though it “only” consists of two scenes, there is plenty to see and do as you try to determine the correct sequence of interactive objects to click that will help you proceed.
When we’ll see the full version of Lilly Looking Through will depend on adventure fans themselves. Like several other indie studios these days, Geeta Games have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help finance the game’s development. With a modest goal of $18,000, the currently-three-person team hopes to hire additional staff to speed up production to the first half of 2013 for Windows, Mac, and Linux, while doubling that financial total will also allow an iPad release. The developers are committed to completing the game even without crowd-funding if necessary, though the wait will be twice as long in that event.
At time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign for Lilly Looking Through has raised almost half of its initial target goal, and will run until June 30th.
