Law & Order legacy continues with new episodic adventure

Dum dum...

No no, I'm not insulting you. That's the synthesized notes heralding the announcement of a new Law & Order series from Telltale. Better yet, Legacies is set to debut later this month, for the first time ever bringing together past and present stars of various L&O television programs.

Unlike the previous Law & Order adventures, Legacies stars a dream team of cross-series characters both past and present. Over the course of seven episodes, the likenesses of Lennie Briscoe, Rey Curtis, Olivia Benson, and Jack McCoy will appear, as players " take on the roles of both investigator and district attorney as they hit the streets to gather evidence and then enter the court room to prosecute the case." You'll need to carefully consider your choices, as every decision can impact the outcome, even leading to a failed case.

According to Telltale, Legacies replaces the previously-announced Law & Order: LA, which was discontinued after the television show was cancelled. That may ultimately be good news for fans, however, as the new series looks to have a much broader appeal. The first live glimpses can be seen in the announcement trailer's in-game footage, and several members of the production team discuss the upcoming game.

The best news of all may be that there's little time to wait. The first two episodes of Law & Order: Legacies are set to debut on the iPad and iPhone sometime later this month, with PC and Mac versions to follow early in 2012.
