The Whispered World demo spanning the globe

If you read through our recent preview of The Whispered World and wished you had your own chance to play the game early, now you can, as the UK publisher has just released a playable demo of the fantasy adventure.

The demo takes place right at the beginning of the game, introducing the two protagonists, a woeful clown named Sadwick and his shapeshifting pet caterpillar Spot. When Sadwick dreams of the end of the world, it's up to him to set out on a quest to save it from its impending doom, which he himself seems destined to play a part in bringing about.

At nearly 600 MB, the demo is a fairly sizable download that can be found at the Deep Silver website. If you like what you see, there isn't much longer to wait until the full version, which is scheduled for release in both the UK and North America later this month.

@Dale Baldwin: in the installation folder, there should be a file named TWW_Setup.exe or something like that. press that file. the option for windowed mode is there.

Yeah, there was just an error on the page.  Oh, and I have to agree - at first I found Sadwick really annoying, but after I played for a while, it didn’t bother me any more.  Definitely buying the title!  I love the animation!

The link that gives the prompt is an ftp link. Pasting it into your favorite ftp client should work like a charm.

The main “Download now” link on that page seems to be buggered for some reason. Try the link on the right hand column under “Downloads”. Just worked for me.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading the file? Clicking the download link brings up a prompt for username and password. I cannot find anywhere on the site to register one.
It does have an option to log on anonymously with just my email address, but entering this just brings the same screen up again.

1024x768.  The readme strongly suggests running the game in windowed mode at larger resolutions, claiming there’s an option to choose when you first run it, but I didn’t see a windowed mode option come up at least.

looks nice but what resolution is this??? i have 24” monitor 1920x1080 and the game looks very bad

I only played the demo for a few minutes but I really liked the art style and from other’s comments and reviews from the other localizations it looks like this game will be really good. I can’t wait.

It’s a good thing the demo is as long as it is. Sadwick is annoying at first, but he grows on you and his cynicism gets more and more funny. (Imo, anyway.)

One of the best demos i’ve played. Very long, yet stops just at the right moment. These kind of games remind why I’m a fan of the genre.

Ok, I tried the English and the German demo.
I must say, it’s not as bad as I thought it was (the English voice-acting). It’s actually quite nice. Still, I do like the German Sadwick more, so I will be buying the German version. Highly recommended this game!

Just ended it !
Pretty good. Yeah… PRETTY GOOD indeed.

I really liked the character and i found the voice acting and the conversations amazing.
Yes, the demo is quite long. It gives you enough time to “understand” its world. The puzzles are easy so far… except one or two at the end.

I can’t wait for more ...

Don’t miss it . No really, DON’T MISS IT.

Wow, I’m loving this demo! I was a bit skecptical of the main character voice from the trailer, but it fits really well. The puzzles are good so far, pretty easy to figure out, but that’s probably down to it being the beginning of the game. Anyone play through the whole demo? It seems quite lengthy and I didn’t make it all the way to the end yet.
