The Last Chariots of The Gods ride into production

Newly-formed publisher Iceberg Interactive delves even deeper into adventure genre waters today, announcing that it has acquired the worldwide publishing rights to an upcoming new conspiracy thriller, The Last Chariots of the Gods.

If the name rings a bell, that's because the game is based on the concepts behind Erich von Däniken's bestselling novel Chariots of the Gods, along with other Paleo-SETI theories of extraterrestrial activity on Earth. In this third-person point-and-click adventure, players assume the role of archaeology student Marcus Bauer. Skeptical about ancient legends, Bauer is "given a task by his late granduncle to prove his strange theories that the 'Vimanas' described in ancient India Sanskrit were actually spaceships from an alien society." He soon has cause to question his beliefs, however, when he "uncovers secrets that were hidden from mankind – secrets that would turn everything we think we know upside down."

The game promises over 40 different locations and more than 30 characters throughout this “Indiana Jones meets Erich von Däniken" adventure, offering several unusual features such as switching to first-person perspectives in indoor locations and allowing players to "alter the entire environment (daytime, lighting, humidity, wind) of a scene to solve certain puzzles."

Developed by Homegrown Games, a team describing themselves as a group of "enthusiastic amateurs" working with professional artists, The Last Chariots of the Gods currently has a release target of the fourth quarter of 2009.
