New fantasy adventure sprouts up from The Tales of Bingwood

Normally the wait for new adventures is a long and sometimes agonizingly slow process, but on very rare occasions, a new game appears seemingly out of nowhere. One such pleasant surprise is To Save a Princess, the first installment of The Tales of Bingwood, which is now available for purchase and download.

The debut title from independent Finnish developers BugFactory, To Save a Princess is the first chapter in a proposed trilogy that will touch on classic fantasy clichés in a distinct and interesting way. The Royal Princess has been kidnapped by the Evil Wizard, but there is no white knight waiting to save her. Instead, there's Tom, a lowly fisherman's son and most unlikely hero. Controlling Tom, players will need to pursue the distressed damsel's captors through the Shady Forest and beyond, but only after enlisting the aid of the nearby villagers.

The 2D point-and-click Tales of Bingwood features a decidedly retro look, using low resolution "hand pixeled graphics and animations" befitting the game's early Monkey Island inspiration. Unlike many independent productions, however, the game also features full voicework for its 25 different characters, along with an original music score and 28 locations to explore.

To Save a Princess is available for download directly from the developer's website at a cost of €7.95. There is also a playable demo offered on the site, plus a variety of additional information about the game.
