First Hardy Boys trailer exposed

Step aside, Nancy Drew, it's time to make room in the genre for the Hardy Boys. With the teen sleuths' own PC adventure due out later this month, now the first trailer for The Hidden Theft has been released.

The cinematic teaser introduces Frank and Joe Hardy and shows a variety of locations and puzzles from the game, in which the boys must investigate the robbery of an unbreakable safe at the nearby Spencer mansion. What the trailer doesn't include is the celebrity voicework for the brothers, as popular Hollywood talents Jesse McCartney and Cody Linley provide the vocal performances for Frank and Joe, respectively.

The 29 MB trailer can be downloaded from WorthPlaying. For more information about The Hidden Theft, stay tuned to Adventure Gamers for an upcoming preview of the Hardy Boys mystery.

Actually, Nancy Drew is by Her Interactive (though TAC published the first few years ago), so the two series have nothing to do with each other. Having seen the game in person now, I can confirm that the animations are pretty poor, but I think the trailer is showing them in artificially increased speed, which makes them look worse.

I’m an avid Nancy Drew fan, and I loved the Hardy Boys in the television series, so I’m looking forward to this!

As far as the crappy graphics are concerned (L-Jazz’s comment), most of the Nancy Drew trailers look as if the graphics and quality of the game are poor, but then when you get the game, it has amazing graphics.  The trailer’s are usually just a poor quality mock-up.  Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys are both by Adventure Company, so hopefully this will be true for the Hardy Boys games as well!

Sure hope that this is not shots of the final product.. I think it looked really crappy, especially when they walked and ran.. hm.. we’ll see how the finished version looks.

Being Italian, I never heard of them (nor did I of Nancy Drew, of course, before coming to this site ^^), but the trailer is quite promising and, from the tidbits of gameplay seen, the game seems really enjoyable - I hope that the comic-like cutscenes will be implemented in the final game, ‘cause they are really well-done.
