Vince Twelve sees strange things when his eyes are closed

Many adventure gamers are fond of complaining about how little innovation there is in recent games, how they are all built on a model from the early 90s and aren't trying to move forwards. It seems safe to say that the people making those complaints haven't played any games by Vince Twelve. Starting with Anna, his releases consistently combine oddball stories and fiendish logic puzzles with some truly unique presentations.

What Linus Bruckman Sees When His Eyes Are Closed, his latest game, has secretly been under development for several months. Still, forum readers might recognize the screenshots from previous announcements of two games: Kami by 'sanou' and DocMcVonSpaceburger Junior by 'rightMind'. Linus Bruckman, you see, is two games in one, and Vince promoted the stylistically very different parts under separate aliases.

In DocMcVonSpaceburger, you're a cartoony alien in undies who has to find the right food for each customer in a futuristic fast food restaurant. In Kami, you are a female samurai come to free the goddess Izanami from her long imprisonment. The twist is that you play the two games simultaneously, in split screen. Any action you take in one game is mirrored in the other, but because the environments are slightly different, they can have different effects. You can try to solve one game or the other, or both at the same time.

Oh, and Kami is in Japanese, at least when you start.

Players who want proof that there's still originality in adventure games can download What Linus Bruckman Sees When His Eyes Are Closed from Vince Twelve's xii games website. The download is 42.6 MB.
