Sam & Max now freelancing worldwide

For those who have persevered through the thirteen year drought, the promises made and broken, and then seeing North American GameTap subscribers call dibs two weeks before you, the wait is finally over. Sam & Max have returned to the world stage at last, as Episode 1: Culture Shock has now been released for download.

Available for purchase only at Telltale's website, the episode can be bought individually for $8.95 (all figures USD), or as part of a full season pre-order package for $34.95 as outlined previously. At approximately 72 MB, the download is surprisingly compact, and should have even dial-up users quickly joining the comic crimefighters in their new point-and-click caper. For those who like to try before they buy, a free playable demo is also offered.

In Culture Shock, the first of six episodes in the inaugural season, Sam & Max find themselves confronted by three former child stars called the Soda Poppers, now wreaking havoc in the neighbourhood. The Freelance Police have their hands full putting a stop to the mayhem (while of course creating some of their own) and discovering what's behind their destructive behaviour.
