Fans of point-and-click horror adventures have a new reason to come out of hiding with the announcement of the upcoming Cursed Roots, currently in development by indie Italian studio MastroBros for release later this year.

We tend to think of initiation rituals as harmless pranking fun, but the stakes are much higher for the newest recruit of The Initiate, a new horror-tinged mystery puzzler coming next month from Deceptive Games.

Music is often a vital part of a game's presentation, but usually it's a background element, designed to enhance mood without drawing attention to itself. Not so in Worm Animation's upcoming Beat the Game, which puts music directly at the forefront of the player experience.

Lack of replayability is a fact of life for most adventure games, but the opposite is true for Vidar, a randomized, story-driven adventure that has just come out of Steam Early Access. In Vidar, it's the inevitability of death that makes it so replayable.

Normally when we call something a "comic adventure", we just mean that it's done in cartoon style and meant to be funny. But two-man indie developer Gamechuck has taken that phrase to a whole new level with the upcoming All You Can Eat.

Water can come in all sorts of forms. It can flow freely as a liquid, harden and freeze at sub-zero temperatures, or even evaporate into wispy steam. Those kinds of transformative properties could sure come in handy in an adventure game, which is just what will happen with the upcoming release of indie Croatian developer Duje "Dux" Šegvić's The Legend of Snowblind.

Life is tough for any down-on-his-luck detective, but even more so when you're a bespectacled anthroporphic cat with a massive bowtie and no job prospects. The good news is, such hardships make for great adventure game fodder, as we'll discover next year with the release of Happiless.

Capitalizing on the ever-increasing "us vs. them" mentality pervading the world today, indie developer PORT 5 has announced their upcoming game KAPIA, an offbeat comedic 3D adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world driven apart by politics and war.

What's better than a comic fantasy adventure where the hero gets to save the world from unspeakable evils? How about TWO heroes saving the same world, a thousand years apart – or, well, "more like one and a half men" in Sick Chicken Studios' upcoming Guard Duty.

When you think “cyberpunk,” the name “Blade Runner” usually isn’t far behind. Citing the cult favorite from Westwood Studios as an inspiration, indie developers Mercy Ground Creations are hoping to add their own successfully Kickstarted project Ama’s Lullaby to the list of popular cyberpunk adventures, though not for another two more years.

Artificial intelligences in sci-fi tend to be either perfect paragons of rationality and benevolence, or just want to cleanse the planet of us inferior humans. Have you ever wondered what would happen if, instead, they were just as flawed as their creators? Christian Miller (aka Silver Spook Games) has, and the result is Neofeud, a newly-released hardboiled cyberpunk adventure inspired by films such as Elysium, Blade Runner and The Matrix.

Stage 2 Studios sure has a habit of sucking all the life out of everything it touches. Normally that's an insult, but not when you're the creators of 2014's Lifeless Planet and its newly-unveiled spiritual successor Lifeless Moon.

Mar

More and more horror adventures are going the way of Amnesia-styled 3D stealth-survival games these days, so it's refreshing to find one like the upcoming Green Mirror, which adheres to the traditional point-and-click formula while still adding in some perilous elements to contend with.

Here's a tip for wannabe space explorers: NEVER be part of the initial research team, because you'll inevitably disappear without a trace. Now, being the investigator sent to find out what happened is a whole lot more fun, and players will have the chance to do just that this summer when The Station is released.

It may no longer be possible to travel to Yugoslavia personally, but now you can visit the former war-ravaged country in the recently-released "experimental interactive game" A Trip to Yugoslavia, though it will be anything but a vacation while you're there.
