CYPHER looks lovely

While I agree with some of the points here, I really think the game is great and fun to play.

I’ve been playing IF since A Mind Forever Voyaging and although I find the parser difficult at times, the experience so far has been great. One of my top 5 text adventures.

Just my 2 cents.

Slight Flaws in an Interesting World

I just finished playing the game and really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the layout and interface. This is the natural progression of Text Adventure games that was completely ignored back in the late 80’s early 90’s when the genre faded. There were issues, do not get me wrong. Basic editing problems with typos and grammar errors, as well as having to fish for the right command to enter, but that is expected.

What the Cabrera Brothers created was science fiction at it’s core, a look into a world. There are little nuances in how the world works, its technology and atmosphere that is reminiscent of the great sci-fi films and literature of the past. What makes this even more exciting is not what they have created, but what they will create.

Being their first work creation, it shows. There are flaws in design that people can nitpick and bicker over all they want, but that does not change the fact they created something! You have to start somewhere, and they started off on a great foot for independent developers. I want to see what else they can do. What more will be made from them. Their idea was great and was executed solidly. The story itself is irrelevant to the world they made and it was a VERY interesting world. They encapsulated some of the core ideas that makes interactive fiction great. It just needs refinement, which can only be done through experience. I applaud you guys for making this and I enjoyed it without a doubt.

I have been a continuing fan of the interactive fiction genre since the mid 80’s and can safely say that this was a blast to play. Money well spent.

in my opinion

Ok there are some grammar problems, but i read that the team that has developed the game are only 2 people + someone for voices and a guy that translated the game in english from Spanish (Latin American), and they just patched the game for grammar problems. They are still working on other patches to soddisfy fans.
Consider that this game is an indie game, they haven’t money possibility to start a beta testing. I think we need to support generally indie games.  Indie games are developed by people like us,  they are humans like us, they dream like us, and they can hear/read what we write.

Probablly as you understand, english is not my language, sorry for my grammar and word errors, today i bought this game , and i’m enjoying it! Considering that the 95% of this game is developed by two people,  they done an awesome work,  such as manual, and site, are so finely detailed. They have style, they know cyberpunk ambientation (i’m a cyberpunk enthusiast).

Terrible English translation makes this game nearly unplayable...

I wanted to love this game so badly! Everything about it screamed “awesome”, that is, until I actually bought and played it. I don’t mind that it’s a text game in the year 2012. I don’t mind that it’s extremely derivative of other cyberpunk works. Hell, I don’t even mind the extremely demanding parser that spits out “syntax error” right and left. What really destroys this game for me is the complete butchery of the English language! There is not a single page of text that isn’t completely littered with misspellings, grammatical errors and downright poor word choices. The ironic part is that 90% of the time I know what they are trying to say or what they meant, which is all the more insulting, because it means they put so much work and effort into creating this immersive experience, only to get lazy or cheap with the translation. I CANNOT ENJOY THIS! I want to become immersed in this world, but I can’t, because I’m constantly tripping over the language every other second! Language is supposed to be this game’s strongest asset, but instead it becomes a crippling liability.

Just plain bad.

The English in the game is terrible: absolutely every new wall of text has at least two or three spelling or grammar mistakes in it, not to mention all of the stylistic ones. The story is uninspired and bland, the parser is ridiculously bad (most of the time you’re trying to guess the verb, not solving puzzles), the setting and stylistics are derivative as hell and steal pretty much everything from Bladerunner, Neuromancer, Terminator, and Deus Ex. The game is just a ton of wasted potential trying to sell itself for fifteen bucks. Avoid.
