Yoomurjak’s ring is not an easy game to review. Its the first FMV adventure i have played so i cant really compare it with other of its kind. If i had to summarize my experience i would say that is a game with high production standards, good actors, good story, nice pacing and pretty long. But at the same time i think it fails miserably of creating a fun gameplay experience. Playing the game without a walkthrough or a guide is very frustrating. There are very few hints in the game and you get stuck very often. There is almost no direction on what to do. Also there is a lot of pixel hunting and failing to find an interaction on screen leads to dead ends without the game hinting about it. I played more than half of the game with a walkthrough and the puzzles kept getting harder and with fewer hints. I would not advise this game to an average player if he isnt gonna use a walkthrough. If you are a hardcore gamer with a lot of experience and a lot of time and patience you will probably like the game because excluding puzzles and difficulty rest of the game is pretty interesting and fun.

Nearly great, but...

There’s a lot of positives to say about this game and Adventure Gamers review are pretty much spot on. But after having just finihed the game i’m just soooo disappointed by some of the stupid design decisions Private Moon made while developing it. There’s a maze that is extremely badly clued even if by chance you would happen to find the maps to it and some puzzles, especially in he last chapter, are not “hard”; they are unfair!  Possibly a result of poor translation, but that’s not a valid excuse. As much as I was captivated by this game during the first chapters I would advise against playing it without being prepared to use a walkthrough. I hate doing so but in this case there was no way around it.

A surprisingly good adventure

I actually loved this game. I especially loved the story, atmosphere, the actors, the music, etc. It is also a pretty long game that will span over 20 hours. I have just realised that I am a big sucker for FMV games (if done the right way) I would probably have given this game a much higher score (4 or 4.5) if the puzzles made a little bit more sense/were a little bit “easier”. Most of the puzzles get extremely hard/leaves too much guess work for the player, without offering any proper hints at all. I like my adventure games hard, but sometimes it can get a little bit too much. Don’t get me wrong, the puzzles are actually quiet good, but a little bit too far fetched with the lack of hints. Also there are sometimes a few pixel hunts that doesn’t really fit the realistic game world. Some objects does not really seem fit to pick up for no special reason.  Overall great game, and I am hoping for a sequel.
