wowzers, if they made that their kickstarter campaign with that artwork, me thinks it wouldv ended differently.
Looks like theyr in “pre-production”.. so nowhere near ready for a release date.

Holy crap that’s awesome news. I love Shadowgate! Will the game be released this Friday, or do you think it’s a kickstarter?

It’s a Kickstarter. They sent out a newsletter and Kickstarter update (from the Sherlock Holmes KS) about it yesterday. I am so backing! I can’t understand why they didn’t go with Shadowgate the first time. I had never heard of Consulting Detective before I stumbled upon the Kickstarter. Maybe it’s more famous in the US. Anyway, I hope this one will fare better than Sherlock Holmes.

I’ll be certain to back this as well. I remember playing the original on my old NES before I even knew what “adventure games” were. Ohhh I’m excited.

Agreed. I didn’t back SH, but I kept thinking, “Why didn’t they start with Shadowgate? That would be a much bigger draw.”

Yeah i think i’ll have to support this. Iv got a good feeling about it. Theyv got fantastic concept art to present… theyr going to add content to the game, and i know for me at least shadowgate brings back great memories.

This will be a difficult project to do. Shadowgate was unforgiving and harsh on the player. It had dead ends and gameovers and I can’t imagine modern audiences tolerating too much of that. That was part of its beauty, yet it will be tempting to change much of the game. Still, I don’t say they cannot do it, and I admire that they are brave enough to take up the challenge.

well for people who remember the game, thats part of what they loved about it.
And other gamers havnt experienced it yet… so they dont know
So at least it doesnt make the funding more difficult. But i think youre right in that when it comes to building the game there’ll be some tough choices to make.

It’s also that there hasn’t really been anything like Shadowgate since the early 90s at least. That may be a blessing or a curse for the new game - people may love it as something different or hate it as being too harsh.

Personally, I just hope they keep the dungeon-crawling aspects and not make it a full-on adventure where you can’t die and nothing ever goes wrong.
