i havent played the walking dead or the wolf or lifs is strange but i played:
Sam & Max ttg (Moai Better Blues) too much enjoyable Smile
Monkey Island ttg (Lair of the Leviathan ) this was the only one felt like the real MI
Dreamfall:Chapters (ppl say this and that about it bit whatever, however it marvelous!)
The Dream Machine (best puzzles design i ever met since Vampyre Story)
King’s Quest (very solid)
The Journey Down (original in many aspects)

Great topic.

I think my mind has been changed over the years on episodic games. I used to be fairly well against but now I’ve come round for for the most part, for some of them anyway.

Life is Strange is definitely top of the list. Amazing game. I picked it up after the release of episode 3 I think so I was only properly waiting for the final 2 episodes but I actually found I enjoyed the suspense and the wait. I loved being in that world so much that I found the gaps between episodes made it feel like I stayed in that world longer - which was a great thing. ONLY because though it was such a great world, I wouldn’t want that for every game.

I should say that I did find Life is Strange surprising, because I assumed it would be like a telltale game. Boy was I wrong. If anyone here hasn’t played LIS because they don’t like modern telltale you are seriously doing it wrong! Go play now!

My second favourite episodic game is probably The Wolf Among Us, but to be fair I’m pretty sure I didn’t get it until either the last episode was out, or nearly out so I didn’t really wait for anything. I did think that the episodic format worked well though.

Others include The Raven, which I picked up at launch of episode 1. Still love that game although it doesn’t really live up to the promise of the first episode. Again, I was fine with waiting for episodes of that one.

Also The Dream Machine. Such an odd feeling game (but great) that I only got into relatively recently, so I haven’t had to wait anywhere near as long as some of you guys for the final episode! Again, one I think works fine as an episodic release.

A lot of modern telltale I don’t get on with so well. Game of Thrones was fine to play on a phone/tablet but little more. I couldn’t get in to The Walking Dead etc. at all.

The best episodic games I have found are Jurassic park and The Descendant
Worst would be The Wolf Among Us, Dream Machine and Life is strange.

My first experiences with episodic games were not positive.  The Forgotten never went anywhere, and two series, Agon and Bone abandoned the Mac platform, the former after the first 3 episodes and the latter after Out of Boneville.  Also, I wonder if the next episode of A Vampyre Story will ever be made.  Needless to say I’ve been leery about jumping on the episodic band wagon, at least right away.  I understand the financial reasons why games are made that way, but I think cliff hangers are way overdone.

Jurassic Park wasn’t episodic!
It was meant to be, but in the end they just released the whole thing as one full game.

But yeah, I also thought that JP was better than TWD and TWAU.

That however doesn’t mean that I thought it was outright good Tongue Grin

I really liked Jurassic Park The Game mainly because I’ve been a HUGE JP fan ever since the book was released back in 1990. I completely and utterly hate QTE’s but dealt with and struggled through them because it’s freaking Jurassic Park! lol Smile
