Hey Jaesun,

I would have seen your message here sooner or later, don’t worry, but I got the message from Greyfuss to call for help. Wink
I’m really sorry that you get this error. Someone else got it recently too, and it is all new to me… I’m afraid there is something to fix in the Desura version of ASA Frown

To solve this issue, the other person installed the “Vista Patch” given with the game (in the Bonus folder) and restarted his computer. (I know it’s weird to install the vista patch on Seven, but it is something related to Audio).
Then it should work…

If you need to contact me quickly, send me a PM here on AM, or from the ASA page on Desura. The e-mail address you tried is currently dead : there is a problem with my web hoster…

I really hope that you will solve your issue quickly. Good luck, and keep me informed !

We have a ‘General’ subforum for games that aren’t adventures… Wink

I’m certain that those who played and loved ASA (and there are several here), would be interested in your next project as well…

Besides, there are quite a few RPG fans here. Wink

Hi everyone ! Just wanted to let you know that ASA is available in a 7-games-Bundle on Indie Royale for a very low price right now, and there’s less than 2 days left ! Smile So, if you’ve not tried ASA yet, it could be a good opportunity to acquire it ! Bundles are a good way to support indie devs.

It’s been a year since my last message here, but I have news!

ASA was greenlit in April 2014 on Steam. As you know, the original version had technical issues, so I’ve decided to redevelop the game entirely for the occasion. Working with indie developer Andrea Rinaldi, we’re developping ASA: Remastered Edition with Visionaire Studio (same engine than Catyph), and plan to release it on Steam on Q1 2015.

New features are on http://www.aspaceadventure.fr/about.html
You can check these trailers too:
Steam trailer:

Comparative trailer:

There are currently no plans for GOG, but we’re working on it.

The game is basically the same than the original version and probably doesn’t justify to buy it again. So please note that if you purchased ASA (original) before October 2014, you can receive a free Steam key for the Remastered Edition on request. However, I won’t reply to these requests before the game releases, so it’s no use asking me now! Thanks Wink

Also I thought that a minority of people here might still be interested in physical retails. My collective of artists The icehouse has just opened a shop:
http://shop.theicehouse.fr
There aren’t a lot of products for the moment, but you could be interested in:
- ASA (original version) in self-published DVD
- a beautiful (but expensive) book of almost all backgrounds from ASA, with work in progress and wireframe views.
You can follow the Icehouse on Tumblr and Facebook if you think you could be interested in future DVD releases of ASA: Remastered Edition and Catyph.

Is there a reason why you’re using that super-widescreen aspect ratio—where even on a widescreen monitor you get those black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

Yeah, honestly I like the 12:5 aspect, I think it’s good-looking and reminds the look of several movies (many movies have this ratio nowadays). I want my games to be immersive, and if possible give a kind of cinematographic experience. I can understand why some people are shocked by the black bars, but it was the same several years ago when we were having 16:9 movies and games played on 4:3 TVs. You just need to get used to it Smile

Also, and this is the true reason, 3D prerendered pictures are very long to calculate if you cannot afford a powerful computer or a render farm. I’m working at home with my own funds and hardware, so I had to find tricks to reduce the calculation times. By adding black bars, the picture is shorter to render. Instead of rendering 1920x1080 pixels, I can just render 1920x800 pixels. It may sound weird but trust me, when you have thousands of pictures to work with, you save a lot of time. This is mainly due to the time needed to render CG movies within the game. I explained it on the Catyph forum somewhere in the Making Of, if you’re interested.
http://www.adventuregamers.com/forums/viewthread/2864
(very end of page 2, paragraph “Render Times”)

ASA would have never released if I had created the original game in 16:9 HD! The remastered version is based on the old graphic resources, so the black bars remain. (Same logic for Catyph).
Thanks for asking!
