Hadean lands - locked doors

There are several doors on the ship that are just “locked”. Examining them or their locks reveals nothing informative. For instance, the door to the Tertiary alchemy lab is a locked pine door, and that’s all you learn.

Am I missing some command, are the doors red herrings or will the way to unlock these doors become more apparent later?

They’re not red herrings. I’m pretty sure all locks in the game can be opened, but you’ll need to find a way to open them. If you can’t find a way, it’s probably best to focus on something else.

I’ll answer myself: you can type “recall doors” to get a list of everything that can (should?) be opened. I think I know how to open the doors, which explains the lack of way to examine the lock, but I still think it’s somewhat lazy and confusing.
