Semifinal 2 - The Big AG VS Tournament
My first two posts in 7 years
Don’t forget the archives…
Maaaan I forgot about those, I guess I just wanted to pose as a hipster who posts two times every decade
Well, well… You know what, I’ve decided to vote. I think these two games are equal (as I said, my shared #3 spot), but I’m thinking about which makes me sadder to go and of which I have less negative feelings (which, mind you, are extremely minimal). And of course since Fantasie voted for it and I want to be all twinsies with the raddest kids in school.
My vote: Gabriel Knight!
Pretty much everything else is tied, but GK did a better job on the puzzles.
Oh, this is just too difficult…
More memorable story: Gabriel Knight
Better lead characters: Gabriel Knight by a mile
More interesting side characters: Gabriel Knight by a mile
Better graphics, compared to the date of release: Gabriel Knight
Better puzzles: Gabriel Knight by a mile
Better music: Gabriel Knight by a mileBetter game: Gabriel Knight
This breakdown could be helpful. Here’s my version of it:
More memorable story: Tie
Better lead characters: Tie
More interesting side characters: Gabriel Knight, but it’s a close match. Perhaps even too close to compare.
Better graphics, compared to the date of release: Tie (GF is one of the few games that actually take good advantage of the simple 3D capabilities)
Better puzzles: Tie
Better music: Grim Fandango, but only marginally.
Well, darn. They win one each, and only barely. I guess side characters are slightly more important than music, so I vote Gabriel Knight. I could have just followed my gut feeling, but now at least I have some small basis for the decision.
Unbelievable! Up until this semifinal both of these games had equal number of points 320 vs 320!(223-200 for GK in the group stage, but 120-97 for GF in the knockout rounds)
And now, 24h before the end of voting, Gabriel Knight leads by just 1 vote. What a thriller!

Did I mention I’m a big fan of Grim Fandango?
So… It’s over?
What would (have) happen(ed) in a tie?
So… It’s over?
Voting for this match will end on 8th February at 23:59 GMT.
Today is the last voting day.
EDIT: One day before the deadline, GF was in front with 2 votes and now it loses??? Wow….
I vote for:Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.
If it would be GK2, I would vote for it in a hearbeat, but here I have to vote for
Grim Fandango, mostly for the reason to make this a real nail-biter.
It’s time.
I’ve been pondering this one since before the quarterfinals. GK1 and GF are my two favourite games, and they each shine in very different areas. Ranking them just feels wrong!
I wish I had the time to play through both of them again, so the ranking that I’m going to do anyway, would be more accurate.

.......
...Grim Fandango
If both games are in a draw state….
And have the same amount of points in the Group Stage+Semifinals….
Who wins?
Maybe we should have a final with 3 games to choose from?

Since it`s a tie, the finalist should be the game with the better remastered version… just saying.

How dare you to mock Gabe, the metrosexual?!
