The most ridiculous puzzle you’ve ever witnessed

The Black Mirror (2003):

So you’ve been stuck in some mines and finally have found the exit door. It’s a metal gate secured by a padlock. You have a gun with two bullets in your inventory. The solution is obviously to shoot the lock.

You select the loaded gun, and click the gate with it:

“Damn! I should’ve aimed more carefully!”

Upon closer inspection, the lock is a separate (and tiny) hotspot from the gate. Whatever, you swiftly click on the lock specifically with the gun, opening the gate but having now spent both bullets. You step outside.

Just on the other side of the gate is a conspicuously placed wolf, ready to kill you. It’s almost as if it had been there the whole time waiting for an ambush, standing unnaturally in dead centre of the forest path. There is now no way to kill it anymore; you should have had successfully shot the lock on the first try to spare a bullet. Nothing left to do but die, reload, shoot the lock with one bullet and the wolf with the other, all the while cursing at the game designer.

Like I said on the new Black Mirror thread, the first Black Mirror has some pretty terrible puzzle design on the scale of which I think ruin the game. It has things in it that have been clearly designed to annoy the player or at least deliberately mislead.

Broken Sword 2:

At the start of the puzzle you have to talk to the little boy (Rio) at the end of the pier.

Then you have to climb the steps and talk to the Ketch Sisters about Rio. But berfore doing this you have to try to open the door to the house. The Ketch Sisters talk about the museum and the refurbishments being done by the surveyor. Then you have to speak to the sisters again, choosing the Emily and then the cat dialog topics! This makes them leave to look for Rio

For some reason the game wants you look at the left flagpole to see that it has some sort of gadget on the end of it, then after that you have to return to Rio and ask him to catch a fish for you. He’ll want something in return, and there are three items he’ll accept. If you picked up the worm (right in the very beginning) it’s the only item he wants..

You have to leave the pier, then return and talk to Rio (twice) before the ‘Fish’ dialog topic is again activated. At first Rio reels in an old bicycle and you have to ask him to try again. Examine the bicycle and remove the inner tube. If you ask Rio about the inner tube he gives you a clue about using it as a catapult.

At the museum entrance you have to extend the ladder and climb up to the right flagpole. Attach the inner tube to the flagpole, then climb down and attach the fish to the other end of the inner tube. When the cat tries to get the fish you can get the ball and then climb the ladder to retrieve the inner tube and then attach it to the tree, making a catapult to fire the ball, then when Bronson gets onto the flagpole, you remove the ladder to leave him stranded to get the marker he dropped and go to his tent and take the plans and his theodolite. THEN you have to return to the museum entrance and show the plans to the Ketch Sisters.

As Donald Trump would say… “dumb”.
