Adventure Game Scene of the Day - Friday 11 July 2014

4th in WRF Studios’ creepy series, Last Half of Darkness: Society of the Serpent Moon (2011) opens with Billy Black in a seedy hotel room in the town of Antibes. He’s there to find his fiancé Wendy, a journalist, after receiving a letter & package from her - details of which are in the game manual.

For the 1st time in the series the game is in 3rd person perspective which some players, I have gleaned, have found a less immersive experience but I really liked it! I found the story, environments & music as atmospheric as the previous games & just love those lilac & blue hues in the dark scenes that make the graphics so distinctive.

Sadly it seems that the very talented William Fisher will not be developing any more games for the AG genre in the foreseeable future.

I don’t feel comfortable playing this game until I’ve played the First Half of Darkness. It would feel wrong.

And Leisure Suit Larry game, and Zork game, and Atlantis game and…

Criticizing me is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I’d be far more concerned if you actually did play almost every Adventuregame that is posted in the AGSotD.
Isn’t that phyically impossible?

Have you met Bastich? I think the only one he hadn’t played is the very last one, Yoomurjak’s Ring.*

Sure.

Yes, pretty much impossible (if you don’t play a game a day).

Of course it’s possible! All you had to do was start playing in 1980 or thereabouts and play all the games released each year. That makes wo or three adventures a week at the most and only in the nineties.

I’d say you’re certainly not assuming too much. Smile But my response was directed at Mr Zobraks, who said we’d have to play one game a day. I suppose in his case one game a year is already too much.

Have you met Bastich? I think the only one he hadn’t played is the very last one, Yoomurjak’s Ring.*

Technically speaking, I “played” every single one at least briefly. What I haven’t done is complete every one of them. I only finish maybe 70% of the adventure games I start and I only finished 325 or so of my 369 SotDs. The rest I stopped playing for various reasons. Yoomurjak’s Ring I only played for about an hour which makes it probably the least played game I covered though.

As far as game playing frequency goes, I typically play somewhere around 100 games a year (all genres) and complete maybe 60-70 of those.

That’s a shame Frown Playing those games was like watching an old horror movie from 60-70s. Mr. Fisher is indeed very talented and dedicated, he should’ve received more recognition.
