Adventure Game Scene of the Day — Sunday 06 July 2014
Today’s scene is from Quantum Gate (1993), an ambitious FMV interactive movie which takes itself very seriously. Talk, talk, talk. At first I thought, okay a briefing at a military UN project to save the our planet is bound to be a bit longwinded. All human life will be extinguished by 2084… no viable solution can be reached within the existing framework… our mission is of the highest priority and top secret… that kind of thing. It didn’t get better. You can tell the developers put a lot of time and effort into Quantum Gate. What a shame, all this advanced 1993 technology wasted on a lame conspiracy story and a linear series of video clips with talking heads. Plus short periods of what the game calls “free exploration” in between. Great, now you can roam a maze of identical hallways and find someone new to talk to, or check your mail and watch another long video message from your mother about god-knows-what.
I should say something positive. The acting was competent and the absurd ending made me laugh.
Another game I’ll never play.

Based on that screenshot, you don’t have to watch Djokovic play tennis, but you can watch bald Djokovic in Quantum Gate instead.
